LAST TWO HANDS TO OJALA

20:16, August 7th, 2010

_MAT0996.jpgHenri Ojala has come back from the dinner break with a medium-sized stack and continued to seem as if he’s involved in most hands played on his table.  He just won two back to back, firstly flatting Daniel Pettersen’s preflop raise on the button and then taking it with a 12,400 bet on the flop (these two do seem to be continually fighting).

Next Siarhei Charnou raised to 9,200 preflop, getting another flat call from Ojala (this time on the cutoff, it was the next hand) and another call from the big blind.

On the flop, all three players checked.  The on the turn saw a bet out from Charnou, with Ojala very quickly calling (the big blind got out of the way).  Now on the river there were a couple of quick checks – at showdown it turns out Ojala’s unexpected were good to take the pot (his opponent showed down ).

ANADON TAKES OVER THE CHIP LEAD

18:42, August 7th, 2010

Daniel Gomez Anadon is the new chip lead after managing to win a monster pot.

He had opened preflop and the big blind Ryszard Kubik defended. The flop came down and Kubik check-called a bet of 10,800 from the deep-stacked Spaniard.

As the pot grew bigger the dealer put out the on the turn. Kubik checked again and Anadon now fired out 26,000, Kubik declared all-in and Anadon called faster than a speeding bullet turning over  for flopped quads that he had bet all the way. Kubik’s was understably drawing dead and the players shook hands as the obligatory river came down.

Anadon is up to 380,000.

OJALA-G

18:19, August 7th, 2010

_MAT0689.jpgHenri Ojala has been pretty active today – every time we pass his table he’s opening pots or betting streets, or, as is happening more frequently this level, getting threebet pre and folding.  His neighbour moved in on him a couple of hands earlier (no call) but he was up to his old preflop raising again immediately.  One confrontation got quite far – he opened for 6,400 and Dawid Pikal (pictured left) threebet to 15,200.  Back to Ojala – this time he considered for a while, sort of toyed with his tall stacks, and then repopped it – what looked like around a minimum raise.  This question was probably only ever going to be answered by a push or a fold; Pikal eventually conceded the pot without a flop.

RAL ON THE RAIL

18:12, August 7th, 2010

Nils Ral is busto after picking an open spot to shove and finding Petr Bohuslav behind him moving all in behind him.  His was in bad shape against Bohuslav’s pair of Jacks – which held.  Current eliminations all receive €1,900 – the first payjump is to €2,300 at 45th.

_MAT9128.jpgMeanwhile the all-in preflop situation went in favour of another short stack – Joachim Olsen, who got it in with vs. Bjarke Hansen’s dominated AQ.  The board ran out :8h knocking Hansen down to a Danger Zone stack.

BOESEN (INTEGER) SPINS OUT OF TOURNAMENT

18:04, August 7th, 2010

That Jan Skampa, he’s a bit of a fiend isn’t he Czech fans?

Sidsel Boesen opened to 8,500 from the small blind and Skampa repopped to around 20,000 in the big blind. The Danish lady wasted little time in moving all-in for about 80,000 and Skampa quickly snap-called with , miles ahead of her . The board offered little help, coming .

Skampa has about 330,000 now. That is a lot and just shy of what’s needed for the final table despite there still being around 50 players left.

PHILIPP HOFBAUER IS BUBBLE BOY

17:41, August 7th, 2010

bubbleprague.jpgThe unenviable position of just-outside-the-money has fallen to Philipp Hofbauer, although from the way Michael Koischwitz leapt out of his seat as if it had been electrified you’d have thought his had him at risk for his tournament life.  In fact he was in front of Hofbauer’s (all in preflop) and hit a third King for good measure to send the final payless player out of the 2010 Prague Main Event.

NEAR MISSES

17:37, August 7th, 2010

Bjarke Hansen just doubled up on the bubble, getting it in with against the of Tor Ulvin Nossum and managing to flush away any chances of busting when the board came .

Thomas Swensen has doubled up when his held against Morten per Varbaek Mortensen’s on a board after all the money went in on the flop.

THE BUBBLE IS UPON US!

17:21, August 7th, 2010

Like the B-Movie Blob, but invisible, and covering everyone with the fear of elimination outside the money, the Bubble has descended on the tournament.  Play is now hand-for-hand, and this usually means a slow period while each table finishes its possibly-crucial hand and then waits for the others to catch up.

_MAT9675.jpgFinishing just outside the money was Joachim Buch, ending the possibility of a triple final table appearance at Unibet Open.  He didn’t go without a fight, however, being active all day but seeing his stack drop a little in the later stages.  He fourbet shoved with , and was up against the of Jan Skampa.  The flop brought two pair for Skampa: and the turn and river provided no upset.  Buch left with the same placid demeanour with which he seems to win and lose, regardless.

SKORUPA SCARPERS

17:07, August 7th, 2010

Bartosz Skorupa has been eliminated, he’s gone in 58th place tantalisingly close to the money but alas no luck.

Harald Daldedrop has doubled up through Fried Meulders when his held on against Meulder’s on a board. Daldedrop doubled up to about 70,000 while Meulders is down to roughly 35,000.

BOESEN-T DOWN

16:48, August 7th, 2010

_MAT0856.jpgSidsel Boesen, final remaining female player and working a decent stack throughout this tournament so far, has taken a fairly big hit, in the process doubling up Anton Vishnevskiy.  The Russian had made a move on her, moving in for 34,400 over the top of her 4,500 preflop raise.  She called pretty quickly with , finding him with the live-as-electrical-cable .  The flop brought the and she failed to respike so doubled him up to 70k+ while dropping to about 35k herself.

ANADON HEADING FOR THE 200K MARK

16:37, August 7th, 2010

Spaniard Daniel Gomez Anadon looks to have almost 180,000 now. He just min-raised preflop before Lukas Nemec repopped it up to 17,200 out of the big blind. Anadon moved all-in and the Czech player was flummoxed, eventually having the clock called and counted down him, still unable to make a decision and forced to fold, he left with around 40,000 back.

MARYSKA PAYS OFF FLOPPED FLUSH

16:06, August 7th, 2010

_MAT0917.jpgMichal Maryska lost a good chunk of his 50k stack just now paying Thomas Swensen, who bet around 10k on the river after flopping a flush with his .  The turn and river had brought no higher card of the suit, but some pictures, and Maryska announced “Call,” before sitting frozen for a few seconds looking at Swensen’s hand and shaking his head until the dealer prompted him to hand over his cards (which he mucked slowly) and the chips.

SKAMPA AND CHIPS

15:49, August 7th, 2010

Jan Skampa is up amongst the chip leaders now after he won a big pot from Davor Pavic. Skampa had check-raised a 5,500 bet to 13,000 with the board reading .

Pavic tried to find out where his young opponent was from, “Are you Finnish?” he inquired but Skampa stayed silent.  Another player mentioned that Skampa was in fact a Czech player. Pavic seemingly felt this was enough info and reraised to 28,900 leaving himself behind about 30,000.

Unflinchingly, Skampa slid a large stack of blue 1k chips forward and announced all-in. Pavic was crestfallen and after a brief few seconds, gave up his hand.

Skampa is up to 140,000.
